January 2007
Guardian Angels for Soldier's
Pet "Board of Directors" approved the following to be known as the MVP Sanctuary
Project:
Development of a special place for these
beloved pets where the organization did not have available an approved foster
home when needed.
Expand the organization's ability to assist
our veterans and their families with their pets in an unforeseen (medical and/or
homeless) situations.
Establish an official National Headquarters
to accomplish the "day-to-day" operations of Guardian Angels for Soldier's Pet
and the first MVP Sanctuary.
February 2007
Officially announced the "MVP Sanctuary Project" and began
locating the property to establish our first MVP Sanctuary within Garland
County, Arkansas.
Remainder 2007 through February 2009
MVP Sanctuary project team members, Linda Spurlin-Domnik
(Project Leader) and Jack Smoot (Project Implementation) worked with Spa Realty
representative Gary Riley in locating and visiting various potential properties
that would meet the need of the project (10-20 acres in the un-incorporate areas
of Garland and/or Hot Springs counties). Overall the team's goal was to
find property where the owner would consider donating the land to Guardian
Angels for Soldier's Pet. During this same time contributions for the
project were accepted by the organization, but this was slow as the larger
donors wanted to know where the first MVP Sanctuary would be located.
March 2009
MVP Sanctuary project team located 11.5 acres approximately 5
miles of the city of Hot Springs city limits that was descirbed as "doggie
heaven". A "Leap of Faith" was taken by placing an offer to purchase
property with a "contingency" clause giving us 45 days to raise $130,000 in
order to close the sale.
This did not happen, so we continued the property search.
July 2009 through March 2010
After reviewing the overall project plan and input from our TX
Director (Lynne Bourgeois), the location for the first MVP Sanctuary was changed
from central AR to central TX centrally located near Fort Hood. The
changes to the project plan was approved during the July 2009 BOD meeting.
April 2010
Located 13 acres approximately 14 miles west of North Fort Hood
in Gatesville, Coryell County, TX and submitted offer to purchase, which was
accepted on 4/26/2010 by the seller. Between enough funds available for a
down payment and obtaining a mortgage through Extraco Banks, Killeen, TX we can
begins plans for moving our national operations to the property and continue the
design work needed for the entire project.
